Earlier this year, nine local councils successfully applied to take part in the Local Electric Vehicle Infrastructure pilot scheme, launched by the Office for Zero Emission Vehicles (OZEV). The pilot scheme will ensure more convenient and reliable access to EV charging stations, resulting in cleaner travel.
The strategy is supported by £10 million of government funding, and a further £9 million of private funding. In addition, £1.9 million will be appointed from public funds. The investment is another positive step towards the government's UK electric vehicle infrastructure strategy, which intends to end the sale of new petrol and diesel petrol and diesel vehicles by 2030.
The nine successful applicants are:

- Durham County Council
- Kent County Council
- Lincolnshire County Council
- London Borough of Barnet
- North Yorkshire County Council
- Nottinghamshire County Council
- Suffolk County Council
- Warrington Borough Council.
